"Experience is essential to understanding, and understanding leads to social problem solving."
John Dewey was a great philosopher of experiential learning. He believed that students learn through experiences, such as learning math through measuring recipes, and how long it will take to travel a certain distance.
I believe this theory is very important especially when training employees for a number of reasons
1. Employees do not learn by sitting in a lecture.
2. On the job training is more effective and engaging when the employee is actively practicing/simulating the activity.
3. Once they take the new skills back to their desk and begin to implement them, that is where the majority of the learning takes place, when they are on their own in real-life experiences.
