Feedback

Here are seven ways to provide more meaningful feedback for your students:

1. When providing feedback, use neutral language to be as specific as possible about how the student is doing.

2. Make the classroom a safe learning environment by encouraging students to try even if they make mistakes.

3. Ask students to provide feedback for you on the instructional methods you chose to use in the classroom.

4. When handing back assignments, provide only a written comment first, and the following day or online, present their grade.

5. Provide feedback half way through an assignment as opposed to the end when it’s too late for the student to act on it.

6. Students are constantly comparing themselves to their classmates, which provides misconstrued feedback. Remind students that their individual project is unique to their perceptions and learning experience.

7. Clearly communicate the purpose of the assignment at the beginning and continue to refer to it throughout the assignment.
