"One of the most basic and easily implemented aspects of classroom climate is the development of class rules -- the list of behavioural standards that let students know what is expected of them and what the consequences of their behaviour will be. "
I use classroom rules, which are mentioned the first time I teach a group and visible for all to read on the wall. Sometimes I will have to remind the group of certain rules when they are broken. This is a corporate environment and I train by department so they are a team coming in and need to be team players in the classroom, but sometimes need reminding of this. I also reward good behaviour with compliments and sometimes even treats.
When there is that one student who seems to attempt at every chance they get to derail my class, I will cut them off and remind them that classroom time is limited and we can take the conversation offline and out of the classroom.
