Extrinsic Motivation in Flipped Classrooms

I would say extrinsic motivation would play a huge role in having a successful flipped classroom. Some things that I would include in a flipped classroom would be:

  • Online quizzes or assignments on material learned (participation marks primarily)

  • Class discussion forums

  • A blog for students to show me that they have gone through the material

There is the thought of being left out during class exercises that will provide negative motivation as well. Overall a flipped classroom has shown increased motivation and engagement in students over traditional methods.

"According to the Flipped Learning Network, 71% of teachers who flipped their classes noticed improved grades, and 80% reported improved student attitudes as a result. What’s more, 99% of teachers who flipped their classes reported that they would flip their classes again the following year."
