Hooked on Games

I remember being absolutely hooked to Roller Coaster Tycoon. I think it was the constant upkeep that had to be done to make sure your guests stayed happy. There were so many aspects to focus on that you never got bored, it all happened so fast. On the contrary, how many times have I been bored and yawning in a classroom, the engagement through stimulating activities was just not there. There is too much downtime in typical classroom activities that give the student (who may or may not be putting in effort to be engaged) too much downtime that they become bored. That is why incorporating games or other stimulating activities into classrooms is so important for engagement. You don't have to make your class as stimulating as a roller coaster, but don’t give the student the opportunity to be bored.
