Factors in order (in my opinion) affecting student achievement.

1. Meta-cognitive strategies

2. Teacher subject matter knowledge

3. Challenging goals

4. Self-reported grades

5. Small group learning

6. Multi-grade/age classes

7. Social skills programs

8. Class size

9. Not labeling students

10.Exercise/relaxation programs

I think most importantly the student needs to be in a mindset that in conducive to learning, if they are positive in attitude towards the experience, they will be able to use meta-cognitive strategies effectively. Secondly the teacher’s passion and knowledge for the subject is a huge factor in student achievement. Challenging goals that stretch a student’s ability just the right amount, and having them responsible for their own grades will encourage engagement. And of course smaller groups allow for more individual attention per student aiding in the students success in learning. I chose not labeling students and exercise/relaxation programs as least important factors because they are most affecting the emotional side of the student. Although I myself am a very emotionally driven individual, I think if the student is able to control their emotions in the class room than these factors are not as useful, and if the student can't control their emotions I am not so sure these will help them either.
