Klob published his learning styles model in 1984 and included the Experiential Learning Cycle, where each stage sets the foundation for the next level.
The four bases of the Experiential Learning Cycle:
1. Concrete Experience - Witnessing a new experience resulting in the knowledge of its existence.
2. Reflective Observation - What about this new experience do I find interesting, how do I feel emotionally about this experience?
3. Abstract Conceptualization - Reflect on how this experience relates to my past experiences.
4. Active Experimentation - How can I apply this new knowledge of this experience to future encounters?
“Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience” (Kolb, 1984, p. 38).
