Heutagogy is a term that was first coined in 2000 to represent a style of learning where the learners are at the center of their own learning. Pedagogy is “teacher-centered learning,” andragogy is “student-centered learning,” and heutagogy is “self-determined learning.” As teachers, we are facilitators or coaches. I will incorporate a heutagogy approach in my classroom by asking guiding questions, and incorporating activities that are more exploratory than right or wrong. Participating in forums and creating blog posts is one way I am using heutagogy in the Instructor Education program.
